Sidney Wins Road Improvement Grant

We just came across a news clip at News Channel Nebraska that we wanted to share with everyone. The US DOT just announced $800 million in grants for the federal Safe Streets and Roads Act. Sidney is 1 of 8 Nebraska cities to receive the grant awards. These grants help communities redesign roads, crosswalks, and sidewalks to help prevent injuries and deaths on roads and streets. Below are the cities that received the awards:

Beatrice
Lincoln
Madison
Norfolk
North Platte
Sidney
Waverly
Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency

The Safe Streets and Roads Act has a goal of minimizing traffic fatalities, which climbed to a 16 year high in 2021. The numbers for 2022 are trending to remain at similar levels.

We will continue to watch for this story and we look forward to seeing the city's plans for utilizing this grant to improve roads and streets here in Sidney. We commend the city for going after grants such as these, this is our tax dollars coming back to help our community. We paid it in, so we need to chase down every dollar we can to help build our community.
